Quiet Times in the Quiet Corner

If you’re able to get away in Spring or Fall, if you eschew the crowds of summer, if you find walking on the beach as much fun as sunning on the beach, if salt water swimming is not your top priority—then you should visit Block Island in the off season.  The roads are wonderfully empty—walking, bicycling, jogging (even driving) are delightful.  Most shops stay open throughout June and September.  Grocery stores, liquor store and good restaurants operate year ‘round.

The weather is wonderful as early as April.  October is spectacular.  Even November can be incredible.  We recommend the Big House, which has baseboard hot water heat, for the chilly times at either end of the season.  The Jotul wood stove in the Cottage will take the edge off a chilly morning, but it is no substitute for central heat.  We do maintain a good inventory of extra blankets in both places.

Spring and Fall you don’t need to reserve your space on the ferry months in advance, and you can probably rent either cottage on fairly short notice.
